When travelling is your passion, getting around in different countries can be both adventurous and frustrating. Late public transport, expensive taxis, and walking or cycling from A to B are all situations that pretty much every serious nomad has been in. Even though getting around can be a great way to see the sights and learn more about the culture, sometimes when travelling you’ll probably wish that you could just hire a car and explore the area that you’re visiting in style. Those with a UK driving license can hire a car in pretty much any country as a tourist – even though it might take some getting used to driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. If you’re looking for ways to make your travel experience easier, passing your driving test is a good start.

Taking Driving Lessons

There are hundreds of driving schools and independent driving instructors in the UK to choose from. When you’re looking for a driving instructor, the main thing is that you choose one who has a good reputation, is fully qualified and has a good pass rate. The type of driving lessons that you go for is also important. For most learners, taking a few hours per week until they are ready to take the test is the most common method of learning. But, if you want to get your license faster – such as if you’re due to travel in the next month – there are other options available such as intensive driving courses where you can learn to drive and pass your test within the space of a week or even a few days.

The Theory Test

The driving theory test is an important part of learning to drive. You will not be allowed to take your practical driving test until you have passed the theory test, so to make sure that everything runs smoothly it’s a good idea to get it out of the way as soon as possible. During the test, you’ll be quizzed on different questions about driving such as speed limits, road signs and road safety as well as be shown a series of videos from a driver’s point of view and asked to identify potential road hazards. There are many different ways in which you can practice and revise for your driving theory test, with a smartphone and tablet app bundle, books, a CD and the great practice tests over at Top Tests available to all.

Practice Makes Perfect

Learning to drive can take varied amounts of time for different people. But, the bottom line is that the more you practice, the better chance you’ll have of passing your driving test quickly so that you’ll be fully equipped to hire a car next time that you’re travelling abroad, or even go travelling in your own car. When it comes to practice you can do this (with insurance) in a qualified driver’s car, or get as many driving lessons as possible. Remember, practice makes perfect!
