Are you headed to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area? If so, you have probably already booked your hotel and made your traveling arrangements. But you still might be left wondering one more thing: What kind of things can you do there?

Fortunately, there are plenty of options. It can be difficult to make a decision when there are so many activities to choose from, but we’ve made a list of the ones worth adding to your list. Here are a few of the best things to do when visiting the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Float Down the River

If you’re taking a trip to the Chattahoochee River, there is a  good chance you enjoy water activities. If that’s the case, you’ll be pleased to know that you’ll have a good number of options.

The river can be accessed by boats, kayaks, and rafts which mean there are plenty of ways for you to get out and have fun in the water. You can choose to paddle along the river for fun, or you can spend the day fishing. However, keep in mind that if you do plan on fishing, you will have to follow all of the local fishing regulations including the purchase of a Georgia fishing license if you’re 16 or older. If you do not have your own own equipment, boats, tubes, and kayaks can be rented.

All that time out in the summer sun can wear you out. A hotel room in nearby Smyrna is the perfect place to unwind after a day of fun, and get rested up for the next one!

Bike (or Walk) the Trails

If there is one thing you want to make sure you bring on your trip, it’s your bike. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is full of natural beauty, and one of the best ways to experience it is by biking the nearby trails. The area offers more than 7 miles of trails for guests of all skill levels to enjoy. This means that you can enjoy a nice day of cycling with the entire family — even the kids.

Take an Afternoon Hike

Hiking is a not only a great way to stay active, it is also a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Going for a hike will give you the chance to see parts of the recreation area like never before. The Chattahoochee River’s hiking trails are full of fun and adventure. If you are not an experienced hiker, that’s OK. There are trails for people from beginners to pros. You may even want to pack a nice lunch so you can enjoy a nice sunset picnic at the end of your hike.

Make the Most of Your Trip

Since the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is made up of about 10,000 acres, you might not be able to do everything in one trip. All that means is that you’ll have to come back. Either way, no matter how many times you visit the area, it will be an experience that you will never forget.
