Regardless of your interests, there is something for everyone to do when they visit France. If you are planning to visit this part of Europe, then there are some things that you absolutely must do while you are there. Here are five suggestions for fantastic places to visit:

Champagne Tours

One of the most famous products made in France is champagne. Any visit to this country is not complete unless you have taken a champagne tour and sampled the product first-hand. The Route du Champagne between Epernay and Reims is home to many champagne houses, each with something different to offer. Champagne Milan even allows you to experience a day picking grapes in its vineyards, giving you a full insight into the production process. At the end of the day, you can purchase their products to enjoy at you leisure.

Enjoy the Ski Slopes

The more active and adventurous tourist may prefer an exciting and daring activity while they are on holiday. If this is more your style; hitting the ski slopes is a great option for all you adrenalin junkies. There are many mountain ranges to choose from and there are activities for both the novice and those with prior experience of winter sports. Whether you prefer skiing, snowboarding or bobsleighing, there is an activity for everyone. An added bonus is being surrounded by some of the most spectacular views you are ever likely to see anywhere in the world.

World War One Battlefields

World War One was a major event in the history of France that shaped the future of this country. There are many sites you can visit in remembrance of this significant historical event and you must visit some of the World War One battlefields to fully appreciate the emotional impact these sites have and the enormity of the events that took place there. There are many to choose from, but some of the most well-known are the Somme battlefields and the battlefield in Nord-Pas-de-Calais (formerly called French Flanders).

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de la Treille

Architectural styles in France vary greatly and this often depends on the era a structure was built. One of the most fascinating buildings in France is the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de la Treille. Although the neo-Gothic apse and transept were begun in 1854, the building was not completed until the 1990s! The interior is home to an amazing (and somewhat surprising) collection of modern religious art by famous artists, including Warhol, Baselitz and Combas.

Jardin des Plantes

France boasts many stunning formal gardens, but the Paris botanical gardens, Jardin des Plantes, is perhaps the most enchanting of them all. It was originally a medicinal plant garden started by Louis XIII’s doctor in 1626 but was opened to the public in 1640. Some of the features here are the tropical greenhouses, Alpine gardens, winter gardens and rose gardens. Two of the oldest trees here are a false acacia from 1636 and a cedar planted in 1734. The gardens are home to over 10,000 different species.

France is a diverse country and there are many exciting and interesting attractions to enjoy during your stay. By visiting the aforementioned destinations, you will have the opportunity to experience the history and culture of this wonderful country.
